Edumoodle

by Dan Humpherson

About

This is Dan’s port of his 1.x theme of the same name. The idea behind this revision was to create an easily customizable theme that fit any organization’s requirements. The images, background, text links, and border colors for the slider that appears on the front page can all be changed (along with the logo and footer text) via a theme settings page. To highlight the settings page, Dan has created a quick screencast.

Features
  • Uses both Canvas and Base as parent themes.
  • Includes jquery slider on the front page.
  • Includes theme settings page.

Just a quick note to say that I have noticed some errors with this theme in terms of the colours used. I based the theme on Boxxee core.css, as such some areas have the wrong shading or border colours.

I have now adjusted the CSS on my development server for final release.

You can see the theme changes here on my site: http://vl3.co.uk/moodle2

Only the front page works in IE7. Any other pages (profile page, blog page, etc.) do not work in IE7. It returns a blank screen… Seems fine in other browsers though.

Jo, thanks for the feedback and testing.

It would appear, from looking at the source of the login page, that IE7 isnt rendering the content of the page. Its missing the login box completly.

I’ll take a look and release and update.

I know there have been numerous issues with Moodle 2.0 Preview rendering pages correctly in IE.

I dont seem to be able to put my finger are the issue at the moment, think i’ll hold off until a more stable release comes my way.

I can confirm that after turning Theme Debugging off my theme is now appearing correctly in IE7 & IE8.

There is still a small issue with the Footer in IE7 but this is a simple fix which I’ll get on to now.

If somebody running IE7 could test the following URL: http://vl3.co.uk/moodle2/login/index.php

I just need to know if the login page is rendering correctly?

For some reason, and by no means am i blaming Patrick for this we have already discsussed the issue via email, the login page doesnt render correctly on this demo site but does on my development box.

    Dan,

that url looks good in my ie7… One quick note, you might want to check out what happens when a user attempts to send a message using the messaging system.

  8. Dan wrote:

Thanks for checking the link and the feedback regarding the messaging system.

Note I’ve also corrected the problems with the footer in IE7.

  9. Dan wrote:

@John My theme has now been updated to fix the messaging problems. Seems the html markup on that page is a little strange but workable. Things look a whole lot more pleasing to the eye and the messaging box is big enough to actually write a message.

I have also completly stripped out all of the Boxxie theme from Edumoodle, instead now Boxxie is a parent theme and the Edumoodle CSS is applied alone as its own theme. This will make it a whole lot easier to see the modifications I’ve made : )

Great job Dan! I noticed the issue with message box, but decided to wait for Patrick to fix it. You should drop him a line with the code you used to correct the problem.

I did mention it to Patrick in the email I sent with the theme update.

I was quite suprised by the markup to be honest, lots of tables and percentages, didn’t appear to be a hint of YUI involved. Might note it down in the tracker.

I’ve been having a play with the Moodle custom menu as well, trying to get it looking just like the original EduMoodle horizontal navigation.

You can see what I have done here: http://vl3.co.uk/moodle2/

Im still waiting for some issues to be resolved before I release this, Im suffereing from a similar problem to Patrick. Where the YUI CSS is loaded before and then a split second later the Edumoodle CSS is loaded. This means on load the menu jumps around a little while it adjusts its position.

    We’ll get there.
