I had two goals coming into this summer:
- Redesign the site.
- Double the number of themes offered.
With the exception of a couple small bugs, the first item on my to-do list is done. So, now its time to start making themes! The goal is to double the theme offerings in the next three months. Wish me luck!
The first theme to come off the line will (probably) make use of the new custom corners feature that rolled out with Moodle 1.9. Here’s a sneak peak:
We’re calling it “Vitality” and it will come in as many colors as we can think up. Just an idea of what to expect in the near future.
Have any ideas or suggestions on what we should design this summer? Since our rounded corner themes (Solstice, Elegance & Convertible) seem to be the most popular we’re going to do quite a few more like those, but always appreciate some feedback.
More on Vitality later!

One suggestion I have is that you try to create the themes in such a way that it’s easy to turn them into fluid-width (if they are not fluid to start with). I know you prefer fixed-width themes (I’m guessing that’s because of the predictability of layout), but in the case of moodle, fluid-width is often desirable, because it maximises the workspace.
I think what you did recently with Convertible is a nice compromise - the home page is in fixed-width, while all the other pages are fluid-width.
Keep up the good work

Przemek,
Sorry I didn’t catch this sooner. Thanks for the feedback.
This new theme, Vitality, which is just about done now uses the same compromise you mention. Fixed-width front page; fluid-width course pages. The reason for this is to accommodate an image in the header of the front page, yet allow for maximum screen real estate in the course pages.
All and all, the themes coming out of here in the near future will probably use this model or be completely fluid-width.
