I present my first theme for Moodle. In fact, I learned how to code CSS making this theme.
VikingNet is a 3-column, 960px fixed-width theme for Moodle that uses the background images from a Joomla template purchased for a different reason. I liked the way that this template looked and, at that time, was inspired by David Scotson’s adaptation of Kubrick from WordPress in 2005. I figured that if David could do it, so could I (ignoring the fact that I couldn’t read HTML, let alone understand CSS).
VikingNet was created with a solid-structured left-column for navigation, and a “floating” right-column block structure for dynamic items such as “who’s online”, “messages”, “calendar”, etc. My experience, at the time, had been that students frequently get lost in all of the blocks on a page. By seperating static content from dynamic content within the blocks, I hoped to get rid of some of that confusion.
I love this theme, and I’m keeping it. This summer, I will be recoding it from the top down and look forward to letting you know how that process works out.
